An intense craving for nicotine is the most common smoking withdrawal symptom. The reason is very simple, when you quit you are stopping your nicotine intake all of a sudden. Your body is used to the intake as humans are habitual creatures, hence the natural reaction is to go back to "the norm". This will pretty much occur with ALL those quitting, you must just occupy yourself as this will only last for a matter of minutes and then the craving will disappear until the next craving.

Coughing and mucus production is another common smoking withdrawal symptom; you will find a lot of mucus coming up. Let the mucus come and get rid of it, it may happen for a week or a couple of week but eventually it will stop and you will feel clear, it is a great feeling!

Insomnia is but one of the most difficult of the smoking withdrawal symptoms, really the only thing which can be done is ride it out. I suggest going down to the library and borrowing some books so that when you can't sleep you can read and hopefully get to the point of sleeping. This may happen for a while and it will eventually die down.

When smoking, the nicotine goes through the mouth into the lungs, this means that all the chemicals are going through your mouth before hitting your lungs and there are around 4000 different chemicals in cigarettes. These chemicals can cause blisters, sores and inflammations, this may last for a few days however rest assured it will eventually go away and your mouth will feel a lot better.

Constipation is another smoking withdrawal symptom; buy some healthy preventative medication which will help ease the constipation.

A tight feeling in the chest can occur, this usually lasts a few days and then goes away. This is because the lungs are filling up with oxygen and getting rid of the harmful chemicals that have been put into them for the time you were smoking. Ride it out as it is one of the smoking withdrawal symptoms that are REALLY good for you!

Mood swings, emotional changes and lack of focus all are smoking withdrawal symptoms and have to be handled, just be aware of them and don't let them affect you. These can have a big effect on those around you, so one piece of advice is to educate those close to you as to the smoking withdrawal symptoms so that they can be sympathetic towards you if any of these symptoms occur.

I hope this article has helped, as mentioned it is not an exhaustive list of smoking withdrawal symptoms just the most common. Remember being aware of these and ensuring that you deal with them when they occur will vastly increase your chances of quitting smoking.
